The Atlanta Opera production of Lucia di Lammermoor in November 2011 featured the very unusual glass armonica played by Dennis James, one of only a handful of musicians to have mastered this instrument.  Played only during the famous “mad scene” the eerie tonality of the glass armonica underscores Lucia’s deranged behavior.

The close-up visual sequences of Dennis playing the glass armonica were recorded at the piano dress rehearsal and then were synchronized in post production with a recording of the full dress rehearsal captured two nights later.

Soprano Georgia Jarman brilliantly sang the role of Lucia.
